Hello! Thank you so much for popping by to find out a bit more about me, I really appreciate it.
My name is Zara and I love to draw and make things. I also have a habit of getting carried away with new ideas and projects. So I thought I would finally create a one-stop-shop, a place where I can put it all.
I suffer from a mental illness called Cyclothymia - a type of Bipolar mood disorder. The condition makes it difficult for me to be creatively consistent because I have no control over my mood swings. My head fills up with exciting new ideas that distract, overwhelm and inevitably lead to burnout. It is a frequent cycle of getting carried away with myself and then "crashing", all with a good helping of the symptoms that both hypomania and depression bring. It's a crazy ride indeed.
I often describe my experience of life as being like I am riding a crazy carousel, going round and round, faster and faster until I am flung off it, never really getting anywhere.
You can read more about it here - mykindofbipolar.com
Aside from being a creative maniac, I am also a writer and a pet portrait artist. I hope to use my writing skills in some storybook projects soon. If you would like to find out about how to commission a pet portrait you can visit my other website - opulentmutts.com
The only other things I can think of that I can tell you about myself are that I live in London with my dog Juniper and my cat Fig.
I love them both to bits! Juniper gets me out of the house every single day (regardless of the weather or my mood) and Fig showers me with affection and adoration (whether I want it or not), usually when I am trying to work, but also when I need it most.
My pets are a wonderful source of inspiration, perspective, and comfort, and I am very grateful to have them both in my life.
There's a bit more space on the page to fill so I guess I'll just tell you a bit about some of the things I like...
I LOVE tea. In fact, I don't think I'd get anything done without it. Tea in the morning is essential, and then a steady supply throughout the day please! I'm also partial to a blueberry muffin and white chocolate kitkats, which both go perfectly with a nice cuppa.
My favourite places to walk Juniper are Highgate Woods and Hampstead Heath (of course!) but what I really miss is the countryside. We moved back to London a few years ago after my relationship went pear-shaped, and I haven't felt quite as happy since.
I feel being close to nature to be very healing. Perhaps that is why I have tried to turn my studio flat into a jungle. I currently have about fifty houseplants in my one-room-abode. I love houseplants. Perhaps you could call me a crazy creative/crazy dog/crazy cat/and crazy plant lady!
I am also currently enjoying reading Harry Potter on my Kindle, and riding alongside my dog on my kick scooter. It takes me back to my childhood.
Come to think of it, a lot of my creative work is inspired by both nature and childhood toys and stories. I didn't realise it until I brought everything together with Carousel Gifts... even the name of my gift shop is whimsical and reminiscent of childhood!
